Three FMC Nurses Honored for Clinical Excellence
GREENFIELD — Three Franklin Medical Center nurses were honored by their colleagues at the hospital’s annual Nursing Awards Banquet held Thursday, May 11, at the Garden House in Look Park. Receiving Clinical Excellence Awards this year were Jenni Lanoue, RN, and Jane Collier, RN. Cheryl May, MSN, RN, received the Nursing Leadership Award.
The awards banquet was the culmination of a week-long celebration of nurses; this year’s theme was, “Nurses: Strength, Caring and Compassion.”
“These recipients were all nominated by their colleagues,” explained Deborah Palmeri, MSN, RN, chief nursing officer at Franklin Medical Center. “They are individuals who have raised the bar in terms of their leadership, clinical excellence, intellectual curiosity, and critical thinking skills. The peers who have nominated them have offered strong, convincing narratives, supported by specific examples of nominees’ truly exemplary traits.”
Colleagues of May described her as “a leader who is able to demonstrate skilled communication, act as an agent for change, build teams, have a strong commitment to service and possessing a high degree of personal integrity.” May was praised for her “deep and profound dedication to the cardiac patients of Franklin County.”
From FMC’s Intensive Care Unit, Collier received one of two Clinical Excellence Awards. Her colleagues wrote, “Jane. . . shines as a direct care provider, patient advocate, and mentor.” They praised her clinical expertise, her skill as a teacher and mentor, her organizational and critical thinking skills, and her commitment to always putting her patients first.
Lanoue, from FMC’s MedB/Pediatrics Unit, also drew high praise from colleagues. “She is confident of her abilities as a nurse and uses these abilities to the fullest for either patient care or on behalf of the unit she works on,” they wrote. “She is a patient advocate in all aspects of care.”
Nurses’ Week activities also included ‘Spa Day,’ featuring items and services to help nurses relax and rejuvenate; chair massages on the units by the hospital’s massage therapist; ‘Chocolates and Flowers,’ including a chocolate fountain and flowers for all nursing staff; and a poster display in the main lobby honoring the most recent additions to FMC’s nursing staff.
