Trinity Health Of New England Implements Maternal Bracelet Program

HARTFORD, Conn. — Trinity Health Of New England announced the implementation of its maternal bracelet program, a targeted initiative designed to improve clinical awareness and response to postpartum complications. As part of the system’s commitment to reducing, and ultimately eliminating, maternal mortality in the region, patients who give birth at Saint Francis Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital, and Mercy Medical Center will receive an orange “I Gave Birth” bracelet to wear for up to 12 weeks postpartum.

While most patients recover from childbirth without any issues, serious complications can arise up to a year after delivery. The “I Gave Birth” wristbands, given at discharge, serve as a visual cue to healthcare teams and emergency personnel that the individual has recently given birth. It supports timely, informed care while also encouraging ongoing monitoring for maternal warning signs. The bracelet will also remind new parents to pay attention to their bodies and watch out for common post-birth warning signs such as high fever, chest pain, headaches, bleeding, depression, and more.

“It is our mission at Trinity Health Of New England to be a transforming, healing presence in our community, and this program underscores that commitment,” said Dr. Karianne Silverman, chair of the Women and Infants Service Line for Trinity Health Of New England. “One of our top priorities is to improve maternal health for all patients, especially those who are at higher risk for complications. Our goal is to increase access to resources and support during the early postpartum period, which will reduce mortality and morbidity. By giving out these bracelets and emphasizing education, we are actively making an important impact in our community.”
