AIC, Sci-Tech Form Unique Partnership

SPRINGFIELD — American Interna-tional College and the High School of Science and Technology (HSST) in Springfield have formed an educational partnership designed to enhance educational and developmental opportunities for the students and faculty of both institutions.
The program, developed by HSST teachers Gary Boisseau and Michael Powell, calls for AIC to identify qualified students to serve as tutors or mentors in selected academic disciplines, including a number of health care fields. The AIC students will also assist students at HSST with various science and technology projects.

In addition, AIC will identify qualified upper-division students who are prepared to serve as substitute teachers at the high school. HSST will provide opportunities for AIC students to satisfy teaching and other internship and practicum requirements.

Edward D. Meyer, vice president for academic affairs at AIC, said students from a variety of majors will be eligible to take part in the program.

“Not only will our education majors gain teaching experience, but nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy students, and others will also benefit from the program,” he said.
