Health New England Partners with Independent Pharmacy Consulting Firm PayerAlly

SPRINGFIELD — Health New England named PayerAlly its strategic pharmacy consulting partner to support the development of pharmaceutical management strategies. The agreement will result in PayerAlly providing oversight and strategic support for the pharmacy benefit with an emphasis on specialty pharmacy medications.

PayerAlly’s mission is to provide impartial pharmacy consulting services to Health New England. This will empower Health New England to better plan for future high-cost, life-changing medications and help members manage their medication costs.

“We are excited to partner with Health New England to ensure proper vendor oversight and management of their PBM [pharmacy benefit manager] relationship,” said Will McHugh, president and co-founder of PayerAlly. “PayerAlly’s experience in the PBM space, particularly with health plans, will allow us to help Health New England manage its prescription drug costs.”

Health New England is a not-for-profit health plan owned by Baystate Health that offers a range of healthcare plans in the commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare markets to members in Western Mass. Health New England is committed to reducing health disparities, eliminating barriers to care, and addressing the unique needs of diverse populations.

“Our approach as a health plan has always been to work to stay ahead of changing industry dynamics,” said Gary Tereso, director of Pharmacy at Health New England. “We look forward to collaborating with PayerAlly. We believe that working with an independent consulting partner with no pharmacy coalition or product in the supply chain ensures impartiality. This allows Health New England to focus on our members while developing better strategies to help them manage rising medication costs.”
