Holyoke Medical Center Receives Two Blanket-warmer Donations

HOLYOKE — Holyoke Medical Center recently received two donations for the purchase of blanket warmers.

One blanket warmer, given in memory of Mary Naro, RN by her family, will reside on the fourth-floor Intermediate Care Unit.

“Mary’s four decades of dedicated service to Holyoke Medical Center (1978-2018) were defined by her strong commitment to her work, her compassionate care of her patients, and her unending kindness to her colleagues,” reads the plaque, along with her picture, placed on the blanket warmer.

The other blanket warmer, given by the Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Assoc., will reside on the third-floor Nursing unit.

“For the past several years, Holyoke Medical Center has hosted our annual alumni luncheon. We wanted to do something in return to benefit the patients, as well as the nurses providing care,” said Connie Kurdziel, president of the Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Assoc.

Spiros Hatiras, president and CEO of Holyoke Medical Center and Valley Health Systems, added that “Holyoke Medical Center is incredibly honored to receive the donation of two new blanket warmers from both the Naro family and the Alumni Association. The sudden loss of Mary Naro, a student of the Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing for a period herself, was felt throughout the hospital. Her legacy, and that of our nursing-school alumni, will be felt and appreciated with the comfort of each warm blanket provided to our patients.”
