GREENFIELD — Steven Lepore, EMT-P, of Greenfield, an employee of Baystate Health Ambulance (BHA), was named Franklin County EMT of the Year by the Franklin County EMT Assoc. at the recent Franklin County EMS Awards Banquet held at FMC last week.Lepore is the fifth Baystate Health Ambulance EMT to receive this award.
Lepore has worked at an EMT for Baystate Health Ambulance since 1986; he became a paramedic in 1993. Outside of his ambulance work, Lepore is involved with the Greenfield Recreation Committee and the Greenfield High School Alumni Association; and has been involved with youth soccer programs throughout the Pioneer Valley for many years.
Two other Baystate Health Ambulance EMTs were also honored at the annual banquet. Cathy Powell, EMT-P, of Shelburne Falls, and Sharon O’Malley, EMT-B, of Brattleboro, received SAVE Awards for their role in an emergency incident at Berkshire East this winter. Along with two Berkshire East ski patrol members and Charlemont Ambulance staff, Powell and O’Malley used their training and skills to save the life of an elderly Connecticut man who had collapsed and gone into cardiac arrest. Powell is a 13-year BHA employee; O’Malley has been with BHA for more than 2 years.
“I’m very proud of all the Baystate Health Ambulance EMTs and paramedics,” noted Lee Irish, EMT-P, general manager of BHA. “And it’s always particularly rewarding to have members of our EMT team publicly recognized for their feats. I offer my congratulations to Steve for his many contributions both as a paramedic and as a community volunteer, and to Cathy and Sharon for their quick and expert use of their skills in a life-threatening situation.” |
