Lyons began her medical career in nursing. After graduating from nursing school at Greenfield Community College, she worked at Boston City Hospital for eight years in the Medical Intensive Care and Labor Delivery units. While working in Boston, she earned a bachelor of science degree in Chemistry at UMass.
