Lyons Joins Holyoke Hospital As OB/GYN

HOLYOKE — Jane Lyons, M.D., recently began working as an OB/GYN at Holyoke Hospital. She is in the process of building a private practice and is currently working with Midwifery Care of Holyoke as a the group’s medical director.
Before coming to Holyoke, Lyons worked as an OB/GYN at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, N.H. In addition to providing gynecological care, both medical and surgical, she delivered many babies, some underwater, as she will continue to do at Holyoke Hospital, utilizing the hospital’s new birthing tub.
“I really enjoy delivering babies,” she said. “I also enjoy doing surgery where the outcome makes a positive difference in someone’s life.”

Lyons offers general obstetrical and gynecological care, including annual exams, treatment for abnormal pap smears, infertility, and menopause. She will also perform abdominal and vaginal surgery, hysteroscopy, and laparoscopy for a variety of gynecological problems.

Lyons began her medical career in nursing. After graduating from nursing school at Greenfield Community College, she worked at Boston City Hospital for eight years in the Medical Intensive Care and Labor Delivery units. While working in Boston, she earned a bachelor of science degree in Chemistry at UMass.

After graduating from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Me., she fulfilled her osteopathic internship in Detroit and then completed her OB/GYN residency at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. In medical school, she took on an international health fellowship in Africa with the American Medical Student Assoc.
