Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson Welcomes Glenda Flynn

NORTHAMPTON — The Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson recently welcomed advanced oncology nurse practitioner Glenda Flynn.

“I have had the good fortune of working with Glenda in the past. She is an excellent clinician who will bring her intelligence as well as warmth and compassion to our patients. We are fortunate to have her on our team,” said Lindsay Rockwell, medical director of the center.

Flynn was first exposed to cancer care in her early 20s when she accompanied her aunt to her cancer-therapy appointments. Flynn’s aunt survived breast cancer but ultimately succumbed to metastatic endometrial cancer.

“Watching her fight,” Flynn recalled, “I recognized the importance of compassionate, quality care, and it has become my mission to be the kind of healthcare provider who can stand shoulder to shoulder with others entering that battle.”

Flynn comes to Cooley Dickinson most recently from the Baystate Breast and Wellness Center in Springfield, where she treated individuals with breast-related problems and provided survivorship care for people living with breast-cancer diagnoses and their families, among other duties. Previously, she held positions as a hematology/oncology family nurse practitioner at the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care and Baystate Medical Center.

In her new role, Flynn will work closely with physicians, surgeons, nurses and other members of the cancer-care team to care for people living with cancer and their families.

“I have been an advanced oncology nurse practitioner for 14 years, and it is my goal to always provide high-quality, effective, and compassionate care,” she said. “Every person is important. Every person has a story to tell. [Their diagnosis] may color their cancer journey, but cancer should never define them.”

Flynn earned a master’s degree in nursing/family nurse practitioner from the UMass Graduate School of Nursing and her nursing diploma from Baystate Medical Center School of Nursing. She is certified as a family nurse practitioner as well as an advanced oncology nurse practitioner.
