Special Recognition

Judy Dowd, bariatric surgery program coordinator at Baystate Medical Center; and Richard Callahan, executive chef, were acknowledged recently by the Western Area Massachusetts Dietetic Association (WAMDA) with the 2009 Special Recognition Award. WAMDA presents the award annually to one member for outstanding service to the association and to the profession of dietetics (Dowd is a member), and to one non-member in recognition of outstanding service to the nutrition profession. Informational Talk

Veterans from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam; spouses of disabled veterans; widows; and adult children of veterans recently heard Judy Yaffe’s informational program on the Veterans Administration aid and attendance pension benefit at Ruth’s House in Longmeadow. Meeting with Yaffe after the program are Walter Clune (left) and David Cohen.


Good Start

Matt D’Amour of Big Y Foods cuts the ribbon at the start of the 2009 Pioneer Valley Start! Heart Walk. More than 700 walkers stepped up for the American Heart Assoc. by participating and raising over $200,000 to fund research for heart disease and stroke.
