Providence Ministries to Take Part in First Annual Winter Walk

HOLYOKE — On Sunday, Feb. 5, the community is invited to walk, along with a team from Providence Ministries, to raise funds and needed awareness for the local homeless crisis by joining Winter Walk. Providence Ministries invites people to sign up to walk two miles throughout Springfield with participants, housed and homeless, in support of Winter Walk.

“As an organization that hosts our homeless friends during the winter, this cause is near and dear to our hearts,” Providence Ministries stated. “Our homeless community is made up of sons, husbands, mothers, brothers, wives, fathers, and friends. They could be you. Each of these individuals has a unique story; homelessness is their state of being, not their identity. All of them are our neighbors in need, and we can help them. The community we serve are tired, cold, and a lot of them are slaves to their addiction. We are trying to help and give hope where there seems to be none. We cannot all be in the thick of it, but by donating to the walk or by starting your own team, you can join our efforts.”

All funds from this year’s Winter Walk will be distributed to the event’s partner organizations, one of which is Providence Ministries. For information on how to donate or join Winter Walk, call Providence Ministries at (413) 533-5909.
