Springfield City Hall Hosts New England Donor Services Flag-raising Ceremony

SPRINGFIELD — State Sen. Adam Gomez, state Rep. Carlos González, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, and Matt Boger of New England Donor Services gathered on April 15 for a flag-raising ceremony at Springfield City Hall to celebrate April as Organ Donation Month. Also in attendance were leaders from Department of Public Health (DPH) and Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV), and an individual touched by donation.

“Organ donation is the gift of life that has given me and so many others a second chance at living,” Gomez said. “Whether as an organ donor or as the recipient of an organ transplant, you may never know whose life you will impact or are impacted by. Breaking the stigma around organ donation is critical, so I am profoundly grateful for the work DPH and RMV do to educate the public and encourage individuals to register as organ donors throughout Massachusetts.”

New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont, and Bermuda. Through its federally designated organ-procurement organization, New England Organ Bank, and its centralized tissue-donation operation, NEDS serves thousands of donor families each year who have generously made the choice to donate and honors the decision of those who registered as donors and gave the gift of life.
