BHN to Host Community Celebration for Mental Health Awareness on June 13

SPRINGFIELD — In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, community members are invited to a free, family‑friendly Community Celebration on Saturday, June 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gurdon Bill Park in Springfield’s Lower Liberty Heights neighborhood, next to Behavioral Health Network’s (BHN) campus at Liberty and Genesee streets. This event has been rescheduled from its original date of May 30.

This event is free and open to the public. Families, friends, and neighbors are encouraged to attend and connect in the heart of the Lower Liberty Heights neighborhood.

“Mental health is whole health,” said Kathy Mague, senior vice president at BHN. “We create well-being when we are creative, physically active, outside in nature, and/or in community. Come, join us, and experience all of this and more.”

Events like this help reduce stigma, empower people to cultivate their own well-being, and connect people to support in a welcoming way. The free event will feature food trucks, wellness activities, music and dancing, kids’ activities, painting and creative expression (including graffiti art), and more.

BHN’s Center for Development will also offer a calm, sensory‑friendly space in the BHN conference room at 417 Liberty St. (next to the park), where guests can recharge, create, and connect at their own pace.
