CDH Mammography Earns Accreditation

NORTHAMPTON — Earlier this month, the mammography department, part of the Women’s Imaging Center at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, passed a Department of Public Health/Mammo-graphy Quality Standards Act inspection.

Maureen Maloney, mammography supervisor, says women’s imaging staff and physicians collaborate every year to meet strict state and federal requirements. “We compile a variety of required paperwork such as staff and physician credentials and certifications to imaging data that demonstrates compliance with state and federal regulations,” she said.

With this successful inspection, mammography services at the CDH Women’s Imaging Center have been re-accredited for another year. Mammography services offered at the Amherst Outpatient Center passed the same inspection in August of 2004, and is also accredited.

Nancy King, radiology manager, calls the inspection preparation process a “difficult, comprehensive and labor-intensive undertaking for everyone involved.” She highlights the efforts of Maureen Maloney, radiologists Richard Humphreys, MD and Louis Pacilio, MD, medical physicist Dr. Suresh Brahmavar, and the mammography staff.
