Cooley Dickinson Blood Bank Announces Accreditation

NORTHAMPTON – Cooley Dickinson Hospital’s Blood Bank, a division of the Laboratory Services Department, was granted accreditation by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB).

The accreditation follows an intensive on-site assessment by AABB assessors and establishes that the level of medical, technical, and administrative performance within the facility exceeds the AABB standards. “The AABB’s accreditation procedures are voluntary,” says Thomas D. Pavao, Blood Bank supervisor. “Cooley Dickinson has sought AABB accreditation because this program assists facilities around the country in achieving excellence by promoting a level of professional and medical expertise that contributes to quality performance.”

The Blood Bank at Cooley Dickinson, a hospital-based blood collection center, has served the community for more than 50 years. The AABB, established in 1947, is the international association of community blood centers, hospital blood banks, and transfusion and transplantation services. Its member facilities are responsible for collecting virtually all of the nation’s blood supply and for transfusing more than 80{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} of the blood used for patient care in the United States.
