Harmony House Schedules Wine & Beer Tasting for Oct. 26

CHICOPEE — Harmony House, a home for the terminally ill, will hold its third annual Wine & Beer Tasting fund-raising event on Friday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Portuguese American Club, 149 Exchange St., Chicopee.

Attendees will get to sample some new and unusual wines and beers offered by a variety of distributors and brewers, and munch on various food offerings. Non-alcoholic drinks will be available as well. Local beer participants include the Spencer Brewery (the Trappist Monks from St. Joseph’s Abbey), Amherst Brewing, and New City Brewery, among others. Many wines will be featured from local distributors, and Everest Vodka will offer samples.

There will be an opportunity to participate in two raffles, with prizes including a flat-screen TV, a gas grill, and a home power wash, as well as golf foursomes, wine baskets, event tickets, and more. Attendees will also enjoy music from DJ New Image and dancing.

Event sponsors include Alden Credit Union, Supreme Roofing of Chicopee, Mercedes-Benz of Springfield, Realtor Karen Kirby, Bearingstar Insurance, Pioneer Valley Financial Group, and Allen Media.

Tickets cost $25 per person and are available on the Harmony House website at www.harmonyhousewma.org or by calling and leaving a message at (413) 331-5252. Tickets will also be available at the door. Attendees must be 21 or older.

Harmony House currently occupies a small house in Chicopee, which was offered by a local family for use while the organization is in the process of renovating a much larger home in the Aldenville section of the city. Staffed mainly by volunteers of all kinds — nurses, CNAs, caregivers, companions, and more — Harmony House is totally privately funded through the generosity of individuals, businesses, and foundations.

Contributions are gratefully accepted at all times. Visit www.harmonyhousewma.org or send a check to Harmony House of Western Massachusetts, P.O. Box 6135, Holyoke, MA 01041.

In addition, volunteers are needed for the direct care of residents, as well as for housekeeping, food preparation, and groundskeeping. For more information on volunteering, visit www.harmonyhousewma.org, call (413) 331-5252, or  e-mail harmonyhousewma@gmail.com.
