Three FMC Rehab Staff Receive Advanced Certification

Three employees of Baystate Rehab-ilitation Services at Franklin Medical Center recently received advanced certification or degrees in rehabilitation to further enhance their patient care capabilities at Baystate Rehabilitation Services at Franklin Medical Center. 

Jeffrey King, MSPT, MCT, CSCS, of Colrain, manager of Rehabilitation Services at FMC, received special certification for Manual Therapy from the University of St. Augustine. This certification is part of his doctoral studies in physical therapy, which he anticipates completing this summer. A graduate of Springfield College, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Fitness and a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy, King joined the FMC Rehabilitation department in 1998. A former Mr. America and Mr. Universe, King has also developed fitness and nutritional software that is marketed nationally and internationally.

Robin McKeon, DPT, of Northfield, recently completed her doctorate in physical therapy at Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, where she had previously earned her master’s degree. McKeon has been employed as a physical therapist at FMC since January, 2004. She came to FMC from Boston, where she had worked at Brigham and Women’s, Mount Auburn and Faulkner Hospitals, and with Charles River Sports Therapy. McKeon is also certified to teach Pilates mat classes.

Lisa Bostrom, OTR/L, CHT, of Greenfield, an occupational therapist, has successfully passed a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper quarter rehabilitation. Her two years of preparation included 4,000 hours in direct hand therapy practice, one-on-one tutoring, and participation in monthly local study groups. Bostrom holds a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Services from Springfield College, and a second bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from the University of Hartford. Since joining the FMC Rehabilitation staff in July 1999, Bostrom has completed courses in Kinesiotape application and in bandaging techniques for Manual Lymph Drainage.

Baystate Rehabilitation Services at Franklin Medical Center includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and audiology services. The department offers several specialized programs including spine rehabilitation, sports medicine, arthritis program, and adult and pediatric speech language services.
