UCP of Western Massachusetts Awards Two Students Lisa Jacobs Memorial Scholarship
PITTSFIELD — UCP of Western Massachusetts announced that Brooklynn Lamke of Lenox Memorial High School and Edward Ferris of Taconic High School have been selected as the 2026 recipients of the Lisa Jacobs Memorial Scholarship.
Created in honor of Lisa Jacobs, the scholarship celebrates students who embody her remarkable “life without limits” spirit. Despite living with cerebral palsy, vision loss, and other physical and developmental challenges, Jacobs approached each day with joy, determination, and a sense of humor. She attended public school in Lenox, built lasting friendships, and found unique ways to communicate through facial expressions, movement, and the few words she could speak. She believed in working hard, doing her best, and never allowing limitations to define her life.
This year’s scholarship ceremony holds special meaning, as one of the recipients, Lamke, is graduating from Lenox Memorial High School, the same school Jacobs attended. The connection serves as a touching reminder of the lasting impact her life and spirit continue to have within her community.
Lamke and Ferris were selected for their perseverance, kindness, positive attitudes, and commitment to achieving their goals. Their strength and determination reflect the qualities that made Jacobs such an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
“Lisa taught us that life is not defined by obstacles, but by the courage, humor, and love we bring each day,” said Maren Jacobs, UCP of Western Massachusetts board member and Lisa’s mother. “Brooklynn and Edward embody that same spirit, and we are honored to recognize their accomplishments and celebrate their bright futures.”
