Bay Path to Modernize Chemistry Labs with Massachusetts Life Sciences Center Grant

LONGMEADOW — Bay Path University has been awarded funding in the amount of $374,222 through the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center’s (MLSC) Postsecondary Education and Training Grant Program, part of the center’s broader Education and Workforce Development initiative, which is awarding more than $12.3 million to 68 organizations across Massachusetts to strengthen education and career preparation in the life sciences.

The MLSC Education and Workforce Development Program invests in educational institutions and training programs that help prepare students for careers in the life sciences. By supporting STEM education and expanding access to modern learning environments, the program helps build a strong pipeline of future talent to meet the workforce needs of one of the Commonwealth’s leading industries.

Bay Path will use the grant to modernize its chemistry laboratories by purchasing industry-standard scientific instrumentation, including a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, an infrared spectrometer, and a high-performance liquid chromatography system. These enhancements will provide students with expanded opportunities for hands-on learning using the same technologies found in today’s academic and professional laboratories.

The upgraded equipment will support undergraduate students pursuing biology, forensic science, medical science, and other science-related programs that emphasize experiential learning, scientific inquiry, and preparation for advanced study or careers in the growing life sciences and healthcare fields. By expanding access to modern laboratory technologies, the project will strengthen students’ technical skills, enhance engagement through hands-on learning, and further align academic experiences with workforce expectations.

The investment also creates new opportunities to strengthen connections with regional life sciences employers while reinforcing Bay Path’s commitment to delivering high-quality science education and helping develop the next generation of life sciences professionals in Massachusetts.
