Building on decades of experience in home care, she will share the secrets to the success of the agency in achieving consistent five-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The conferences will feature up-to-date information for home-care leadership, including a focus on regulatory compliance, technology solutions, and growth strategies. Chaffee will present on the innovative clinical and operational best practices that led to Porchlight VNA/Home Care’s ranking within the top 3{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} of agencies in the country. Her presentations include tips on reducing falls and medication mishaps, reducing hospital readmissions, and improving patient satisfaction.

Porchlight is the only Western Mass. agency given the elite five-star status by the federal government. Similar to hotel or restaurant ratings, agencies are given a score of one to five stars, with one being the lowest score and five being the highest ranking among peers. Star ratings can be found at medicare.gov under ‘Home Health Compare’ andin other publications, along with detailed information on the measures used to determine the ratings.

Star ratings are a reflection of the quality of patient care, safety measures, and outcomes as determined by CMS standards. One such measured outcome is the improvement in a patient’s ability to perform activities of daily living, such as walking independently. A low rate of patient hospitalization or readmissions is also a key measure of performance for the CMS ratings.
